Les Gets combines a traditional Alpine village with access to the Les Gets–Morzine ski area and the wider Portes du Soleil. That gives families a useful combination: relatively straightforward local skiing for younger children, with more terrain available as confidence and ability increase toward Morzine, Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes du Soleil.

The village itself also matters, especially compared with some of the larger, more built-up stations elsewhere in the Portes du Soleil. Restaurants, cafés, shops, ski schools and everyday services are concentrated around the resort rather than being spread across a large purpose-built ski station.

For families flying from the UK, Geneva is another practical advantage. Les Gets can be reached by road from Geneva without the much longer transfer associated with some French Alpine resorts.

Not everyone in the family skis?

Les Gets also offers pedestrian and lift-access products for people who do not ski but still want to go up the mountain. This can be useful when one parent stays off the slopes but wants to accompany the family, meet skiers at altitude or enjoy the mountain independently.

Other costs to budget for

Les Gets has three main ski schools worth comparing for families: ESF Les Gets, BASS and Les Gets 360°. ESF is the traditional French option, BASS is the English-speaking choice most relevant to British families, and Les Gets 360° offers international group and private lessons. Because Les Gets sits within the Morzine–Les Gets sector of the Portes du Soleil, families can also look at schools based slightly further afield in Morzine — though for most families with young children, a school in the Les Gets village centre keeps mornings simpler.

Yes — Les Gets has two main local childcare options: Club des P'tits Montagnys and Garderie Les Fripouilles. Before booking accommodation, check each one's age requirements, opening dates and availability. Also check the location: a childcare facility that looks close on a map may involve a less convenient daily route with a toddler.

INTERSPORT Rent Les Gets and Perrières Ski are the two main local rental options, both offering equipment packages for adults and children. Families should compare equipment category, location, opening hours and cancellation terms rather than simply choosing the lowest headline price.

Most families use a pre-booked private or shared transfer, typically 55–75 km and around 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes from Geneva Airport. The important comparison is not simply the advertised price: consider whether the service is private or shared, the number of stops, luggage arrangements, child-seat requirements and the final drop-off point. Many transfer routes into the Portes du Soleil pass through or near Morzine before reaching Les Gets, so it's worth confirming the drop-off order if travelling with several families.

Most families should start with the local Les Gets–Morzine pass rather than the full Portes du Soleil pass. Beginners and younger children usually spend most of their week on the pistes shared between Les Gets and Morzine. More experienced skiers may want the full Portes du Soleil pass, which opens up the wider network including Avoriaz, Châtel and Champéry across the border in Switzerland.

Family discounts to check before buying

The Tribu discount saves 10% from 4 people skiing for at least 4 days, subject to the applicable conditions. For a family of four, this should be checked before purchasing four standard passes.

From 20 March 2027, a 15% end-of-season discount is available under the applicable conditions. Families travelling in late March should compare this with the standard rate.

Not everyone wants to ski?

Pedestrian and lift-access products are also available for non-skiers who want to reach the mountain. This can be useful for a parent who does not ski but wants to accompany the family, meet them at altitude or enjoy the mountain independently.

When choosing accommodation, look at the actual walking route rather than relying on the advertised distance to the nearest lift.

For beginners, the daily journey to ski school may matter more than the distance to the main lift.

2. Check how equipment will be handled

Ski storage, parking and the route from the apartment to the slopes all become part of the morning routine.

3. Check access to the village

Restaurants, groceries, cafés and everyday services are useful to have within practical reach, especially when travelling with younger children. This is one area where Les Gets tends to feel more compact than staying further into Morzine or elsewhere in the Portes du Soleil, since most of what a family needs day to day sits within the village centre.

4. Think beyond sleeping capacity

A six-person apartment isn't necessarily comfortable for six people. Separate bedrooms and a proper living area can make a substantial difference during a full seven-night stay.

Outside school holidays, January can offer a quieter resort experience. It is particularly interesting for families whose schedules are flexible.

February half-term

One of the busiest family periods of the season. Ski school, childcare, accommodation and restaurants should all be planned early.

March

Longer daylight hours and a different atmosphere make March attractive to families who enjoy skiing in sunnier conditions, particularly on the more open pistes toward Morzine and the rest of the Portes du Soleil. From 20 March 2027, the published late-season discount is another factor worth checking when comparing dates.

Easter

Spring skiing can be enjoyable, particularly for families who value longer lunches and outdoor time. Snow conditions should be checked closer to travel.

Planning the week in the right order

For a family ski holiday in Les Gets, the decisions that are hardest to change later should generally come first: accommodation, ski school, childcare and airport transfers.

Ski hire, lift passes, restaurants and the rest of the week can then be organised around those choices.

For lift passes, check the Tribu discount if four or more people are skiing for at least four days. For travel from 20 March 2027, check the 15% late-season reduction as well. Non-skiing family members should also compare pedestrian/lift-access products.

That approach makes it easier to choose accommodation based on the actual needs of the family rather than simply searching for the cheapest available apartment.
